In this three-week, interactive class, we will explore the keys to writing a personal essay for publication.

Week One: Through excerpts/examples, we will pinpoint the essential elements writers need to think about when crafting a personal essay for publication. We’ll talk about where most essays fall short.

Week Two: Prompts will help generate story ideas. We will also discuss how one story can have multiple angles. Through class sharing, we will workshop ideas and have an actionable framework for students craft their essay from.

Week Three: Our last class will be all about pitching—how to determine where to pitch, how to pitch to different outlets (commercial vs. lit mag), how to help your story stand out, and more.
